Position Summary

The Counselor reports to the Director of EOC and provides educational, career and financial aid counseling to assist primarily lower-income and first-generation adults in selecting programs of study and appropriate post-secondary institutions. Grant funded position. Continuation contingent upon availability of funding.

• Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Sungard

• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
• Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
• Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to administer and interpret career assessment instruments.
• Ability to interpret various kinds of educational programs and courses of study available at post-secondary institutions within the target area.
• Ability to work evenings.
• Ability to effectively counsel students.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Ability to visit outreach centers located throughout the program target area.
• Ability to participate in state and regional professional associations.
