Position Summary

This position serves as the Chief Data Officer for the University and manages data as an integral university asset. It is responsible for providing expertise, vision, and leadership for the development and implementation of university data, institutional research, and data governance initiatives. The role provides decision‑support studies to aid university administrators and other stakeholders in using data to inform decision‑making in a timely and proactive manner to support student success, strategic planning, and effective use of resources.

As a key member of the University’s administration, the CDO leads data collection and analysis, identifies emerging trends, and informs strategic decisions across the institution. This leadership position coordinates the Decision Support and Institutional Research (DSIR) functions and reports to the Vice Provost/Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and design institutional data initiatives and processes with employees from a variety of university offices and divisions.
  • Lead university committees and teams to accomplish objectives.
  • Efficiently use a variety of computer software and possess sufficient knowledge of mainframe computers to use centralized services effectively.
  • Interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
  • Supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and analyze reports, and synthesize results to most effectively “tell a story”.
  • Work independently, make sound decisions, and effectively solve problems.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of higher education issues.
  • Maintain a commitment to accuracy, clarity, promptness, reliability and creativity.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of the Association for Institutional Research.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Develop and interpret policy.
