Tank Fitter/Tacker – CB&I

The CB&I Tank Fitter/Tacker provides critical welding and assembly services for our extensive portfolio of storage facilities and industrial vessels. You will be responsible for the accurate fabrication and erection of various tank types, ensuring safety and quality throughout the process.

• Selects type, size, and material of pipe or other components per specifications.
• Plans layouts, assembles, and welds components, applying knowledge of geometry and metal properties.
• Uses a variety of welding processes, including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, and Shielded Metal Arc.
• Locates, positions, aligns, and fixes components for welding.
• Conducts arc welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions; tack welds as required.
• Connects and tests welding equipment to ensure proper amperage, voltage, and pulse.
• Guides electrode or gun, maintaining arc length and speed to achieve specified fusion depth and bead.
• Applies filler rod, cleans, or degreases weld joints or work pieces and repairs defects.
• Preheats work pieces with torch or furnace, cuts metal plates or structural shapes as needed.
• Examine welds for bead size, geometry, and other specifications.
• Handles loading, transporting, unloading, and positioning of materials, tools, and equipment.
• Performs minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Assists other mechanics as needed.
• Wears respiratory protection and other safety gear as required.
• Passes performance and certification tests required by the employer.
• Observes and complies with all safety and project rules.
• Works within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
• Applies basic mathematics to solve onsite problems.
• Plans work and selects appropriate tools.
• Visualizes three‑dimensional objects from plans and drawings.
• Identifies and evaluates differences in size, shape, and quality of lines, figures, and objects.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in field welding or a related area.
