Position: Peer Support Specialist I

Job Type: Part-time / Non‑Exempt

Shift Details: Shift Days - 8:00 am–8:30 pm / Every Other Saturday and Sunday

Work Location: Out‑Patient Community – Wilmington

• $18.00 without DE Peer Certification
• $21.00 with DE Peer Certification

Successful completion of Peer Employment Training, obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist, is required.

The Peer Support Specialist I provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services, assists in creating a recovery environment, and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual.

• Guest Care & Advocacy:
  • Provides peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying the participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
  • Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
  • Models hope, personal responsibility and self‑advocacy, demonstrating how recovery goals can be met and how belief in self is maintained.
  • Assists in developing natural supports and community living.
  • Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, environment, and to meaning and purpose).

  • Completes clinical documentation as required.
  • Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change.
  • Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as outlined in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.

  • Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.
• Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Education/Licenses:
  • Successful completion of Peer Employment Training, obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist, is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience:
  • Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
• Skills:
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass de‑escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
• Driving Requirements:
  • If driving is required, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy.
  • If not qualified to drive per policy, a Non‑Driver Attestation form must be signed.
• Miscellaneous Requirements:
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless a state regulation requires a different minimum age.
  • Travel required based on business need.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA) and professionalism.

    Must pass a seven‑year background check, substance abuse testing (if applicable), tuberculous testing (if applicable), fingerprint clearance (where required), education verification, and motor vehicle report (if driving is required).
