Description

Lead staff responsible for maintaining the safety, custody, security and control of inmates at all levels of security in an indirect or direct supervision, prisoner processing or work release environment on assigned shift.

Duties
  • Coordinate and deliver specialized training programs for staff.
  • Serve as a mentor to guide cadets in their duties and professional growth.
  • Actively encourage, motivate and engage cadets during instruction.
  • Provide constructive feedback to cadets.
  • Conduct ongoing research to stay informed about departmental training needs, industry best practices and evolving correctional policies.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree with at least three years of work‑related experience, including one year as a Corrections Officer.
  • Experience in criminal justice, social work, psychology, corrections, probation and parole, and substance/addiction treatment.
  • No creditable experience as a police or security officer.
  • Candidate without a degree must have at least four years of work‑related experience.
  • Must be willing to work mandatory overtime and any shift as needed.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
  • Physical requirements:

    extensive standing, walking, climbing stairs at least eight times daily per shift, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, wearing a belt, using a breathing apparatus, listening for disturbances and observing required areas.
Additional Information – Selection and Appointment

The selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, including education, experience, supplemental questionnaire responses, employment references and any other relevant information.

Only candidates who possess the most job‑related qualifications will be admitted to interview. A qualifying interview grade of 70 % or more is required for appointment.

After selection, candidates must complete a Conviction Questionnaire within 3 days. The five top‑ranked candidates will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority, who makes the final appointment decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position must submit to a pre‑appointment urinalysis. Screening is performed by a reputable clinical laboratory and the cost is covered by the County.
