The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join a major global initiative spanning Australia, Asia and Europe. This project focuses on transport electrification and energy efficiency, addressing the critical need to better understand and link user behaviour and individual electric vehicle (EV) usage with the place-based demands on infrastructure, including the grid, renewable energy sources, and the need for additional EV charging and energy storage.
Please see website.
This position is part of a major global initiative across three continents (Australia, Asia and Europe) focusing on mobility and energy efficiency, where we will address the need to better understand and link the impact of user behaviour and individual electric vehicle (EV) usage to the associated place-based demands on infrastructure - the grid, renewable energy sources and the need for additional EV charging and energy storage.
As such, this position requires a combination between academic research and project/ stakeholder management, including the ability to switch between data collection and analysis, and developing proposals for continued collaboration and funding.
As the Research Fellow, you will be responsible for
- Establishing the local-based needs in the transport electrification transition, including further problem/gap identification.
- Leading, coordinating and contributing to the development of national-scale models to study and evaluate various potential pathways for renewable energy transition and transport electrification, as well as their demands on infrastructure including exploring opportunities for new research proposals, initiatives, or collaborations.
- Coordinating the global team and engaging industry/ stakeholders; this includes close collaboration with international peers working on the program, industry and government stakeholders, and funding bodies.
- Exploring, leading and coordinating opportunities for new research proposals, initiatives, or collaborations with industry partners and/or grant programs.
Working closely with Lead Investigators from Monash University and the University of Warwick, as well as academic teams and PhD students across Monash campuses in Australia, Malaysia, and Prato (Italy), and at Warwick (UK), you will support collaboration, data integration, and coordination of research activities and outputs.
The role also includes a strong engagement component, involving the interaction with relevant units or organisations (e.g., Monash Energy Institute, VIC Department of Transport and Planning) and industry/stakeholders (both in transport and energy sectors) across the three continents (Australia, Asia and Europe) to organise meetings/workshops, gather both qualitative and quantitative data as well as facilitate new initiatives. This data will be used to build an innovative optimisation model for understanding and fostering future sustainable mobility via transport electrification.
The expected split is 70% research and 30% project management.
