Piper Companies is seeking a Utilities Commissioning Engineer to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organization supporting a large-scale greenfield expansion project in Clayton, NC.
This is an onsite contract opportunity with an initial one-year term, strong potential for extension, and the possibility of converting to a full-time position. The Utilities Commissioning Engineer will support commissioning, startup, and turnover activities for critical utility systems within a highly regulated GMP environment, partnering with engineering, construction, CQV, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution and operational readiness.

- Support commissioning, startup, and turnover activities for clean utility, industrial utility, and HVAC systems across a large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
- Verify field installation status against approved design documents, commissioning requirements, and startup readiness standards
- Perform system walkdowns, field inspections, troubleshooting activities, and punch list identification and resolution
- Coordinate with CQV, construction management, operations, maintenance, automation, and trade partners to support utility tie-ins and operational turnover
- Review commissioning documentation, turnover packages, construction records, and system readiness documentation to ensure project compliance and execution milestones are achieved
- Support startup activities and assist in resolving field issues impacting commissioning schedules and system performance
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience supporting engineering, commissioning, startup, construction, or CQV activities within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or GMP-regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting capital projects (CAPEX) and facility expansions within highly regulated industries
- Hands-on experience with clean utility systems such as Clean Steam, Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), Clean Compressed Air, and associated distribution systems
- Strong understanding of system walkdowns, punch list management, turnover processes, commissioning documentation, and startup execution
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, maintenance, CQV, and construction teams in a fast-paced project environment
- Pay Rate: $60-$80/hour
- Opportunity to support a multi-year pharmaceutical manufacturing expansion project
