Job Summary

The Packaging Technician 1 & 2 role focuses on detecting and identifying defect trends during the inspection of manufactured products, accurately inspecting and selecting samples for routine and non‑routine quality and stability testing, and performing labeling activities to verify product and diluent vial labeling for biological products.

Packaging Technician 2 additionally troubleshoots, maintains, and performs changeovers for packaging equipment.

Responsibilities – Packaging Technician 1
  • Perform paced inspections of final container products for multiple categories of defects.
  • Document job tasks on the Batch Production Record (BPR), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents, or other acceptable forms.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks and maintain department housekeeping at an optimal level.
  • Adhere to all company safety and cGMP policies and practices.
  • Maintain visual inspection recertification through knowledge of the PDA Lexicon for glass defects and in‑house training standards.
  • Set‑up, operate, and troubleshoot packaging equipment; manually package products; inspect packaged and pre‑packaged products for possible defects; conduct accurate counts of pre‑ and post‑packaged products; and operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts.
  • Set‑up and operate multiple label verification vision systems on vial labelers and cartoners; set‑up and operate vial labelers, vial cartoners, shrink banding machines, and other final container labeling equipment; conduct periodic challenges for packaging systems.
  • Set‑up and operate various packaging equipment as required for final container labeling.
Responsibilities – Packaging Technician 2
  • Perform all duties associated with Packaging Technician 1 level.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform changeovers for packaging equipment.
  • Operate packaging equipment such as serialization equipment, vial labelers, cartoners, and shrink‑banding machines.
  • Deliver samples to various quality laboratories for required testing.
  • Operate a computer to review and enter data into LIMS, SAP, and other systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of various product specifications to ensure correct components are used.
  • Evaluate causes of rejected labeling and document findings according to SOPs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Pass annual vision testing for near vision and colorblindness.
  • Pass initial visual inspection certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Identify product defects per the PDA Lexicon for glass defects and applicable SOPs.
  • Maintain continuous and concentrated focus on packaging activities.
Requirements – Packaging Technician 1

High School Diploma. Packaging Operator/Inspector experience preferred.

Requirements – Packaging Technician 2

High School Diploma; 1‑year Packaging Inspector/Label Verification Technician experience preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.

Work Environment

Manufacturing environment with rotating shifts; potential exposure to biological fluids, chemicals, electrical manufacturing equipment, hand tools, moving machinery, and high noise levels. Requires use of personal protective equipment (protective eyewear, safety shoes, gloves, garments). Occasional entry into confined spaces; work standing for 6‑8 hours per day with frequent walking and hand movements. Prone to lifting: light (≤15 lbs) for 6‑8 hours; moderate (15‑44 lbs) for 4‑6 hours;

maximum lift 45 lbs. Other physical demands include bending, twisting, reaching, and precise coordinated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.
