This position is responsible for enrolling & completing the training course Level 1 provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing.

Paragon is a virtual distant learning program where students are guided through a 15-week training program designed to educate students on the fundamentals of bathing and grooming, while also providing the necessary basic skills in safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling skills, dog anatomy, and dog physiology. This is achieved through a combination of hands-on practice, book work, online exams, watching videos, and submitting photos of practical application for grading.

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.

• Learn & perform duties throughout training, including:
  • Enroll & complete Paragon Level 1 training within five weeks.
  • Safe Pet Handling
  • Bathing, Drying, Brushing, and Combing all coat types
  • Nail Trimming
  • Ear Cleaning
  • Preparatory Hair Trimming
  • Basic Clipper and Finishing Techniques
  • Customer Service Skills and Professionalism
  • Equipment Handling and Maintenance
  • Ensure animal safety and well-being
  • Inspect animals for parasites, disease, or injury and report findings
  • Practice safety and sanitization protocols
  • Maintain grooming tools and equipment
  • Assist in business generation activities like scheduling and follow-ups
  • Maintain pet client records and operate computer systems
  • Store recovery if needed
  • Care for live animals and sanitize holding areas
  • Complete all documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Comfort working with dogs and cats, demonstrating patience and compassion.
• Own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or willing to purchase them.
• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and count accurately.

• Operate grooming tools and equipment effectively
• Effective communication with staff and customers

• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer skills and strong interpersonal skills

• Indoor environment with moderate noise, exposure to pet-related substances, and wet conditions.
• Variable shifts, generally no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours.
• Maintain a safe environment and adhere to safety guidelines.
• Work on hard surfaces, with the ability to move quickly and safely throughout the store and outdoor areas.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for up to 8 hours.
• Frequent movement around the store, using grooming instruments, and bending/kneeling.
• Effective communication skills and ability to operate store equipment.
