The cook’s main responsibility is to ensure all of our students are always offered healthy meals prepared and served on time in a clean and safe environment.

• Prepare the meals planned in the menu and provided by the center.
• Deliver on time to each classroom the meals prepared.
• Comply with all the sanitation requirements.
• Review the menu and offer suggestions for improvement with new and nutritious meals.
• Ensure items in the pantry are in good condition and within date for consumption.
• Keep the kitchen clean and organized; perform daily cleaning, and weekly and monthly deep cleaning.
• Maintain a clean pantry, refrigerator, cupboards, cabinets, floor, stove, microwaves, and faucets.
• Report to administrative staff when items needed for the menu are not available with enough time to buy them.
• Report to administrative staff when kitchen appliances are not working or need repair.
• Lead the kitchen at all times; a Cook Aide may assist as required.
• Develop the shopping list (Walmart, Costco, or Sam’s) and verify available food for the upcoming week.
• Check that the shopping items are complete for the week and report items that should be used to avoid spoilage.
• Remove trash and dispose in the dumpster.
• Cover a classroom when needed.
• Ensure food is presented neatly and in creative ways.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be 21 years old or older
• CPR and First Aid Certified
• SIDS certification
• Cleared/Qualifying letter from the DCDEE Criminal Record Check Unit before contacting children
• At least 1 year of experience

• Participate enthusiastically in school meetings, parties, and other school events.
• Proficiency & Language Growth: communicate clearly and effectively in English and demonstrate willingness to learn and use Spanish daily.
