POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Associate Branch Director, the Healthy Living Director is responsible for the overall management and operation of the wellness facility and programs. They are responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, driving sales, and connecting members to others through programs that share the work of the Y as a cause driven organization. The Healthy Living Director will work to strengthen relationships with members and build communities around common goals while maintaining safety throughout the branch.
They will be responsible for managing those functions in accordance with the stated mission and policies established by the YMCA of the Triangle Area.
- Develops, promotes and delivers high-quality wellness programs serving members, volunteers and program participants with an intentional focus on relationships, engagement and skill development.
- Frequently audits classes and wellness programs.
- Manages schedules for Group Fitness, Wellness, and Personal trainers following Association protocols, data, and trends.
- Plans and implements association wellness challenges and branch specific wellness incentive programs creating a positive and motivating wellness floor environment.
- Supports all Evidence Based Health Initiatives.
- Serves as support on Wellness Floor which includes serving as a Personal Trainer, Small Group Trainer and/or Group Fitness Instructor.
- Directly supervises part-time wellness coaches, Start Strong, orientations and wellness operations.
- Directly monitors programming and staff during key hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and provides active coaching, through discussion of goals, performing health assessments, and providing exercise programs to members on the wellness floor to help them reach their fitness goals.
- Oversees equipment preventative maintenance to ensure all wellness equipment is in good working condition and manages the repair process as needed. Assists with equipment acquisition as needed.
- Collaborates among branch wellness staff to plan and program relevant Small Group Trainings.
- Serves as part of the Leadership Engagement team to include opening or closing in order to develop and maintain relationships with members and program participants on a scheduled basis.
- Serves as a member advocate and concierge while on duty, with a focus on facilitating small group opportunities for members to connect.
- Promotes volunteerism as a part of the overall continuum of the member experience.
- Understands all program offerings, pricing, business policies and procedures, and is a proficient power user in Personify Go and Personify 360.
- Supports Welcome Center, Access desks, Gym and Wellness Floor to ensure all members are being served in a quality manner.
- Creates a team environment that concentrates on delivering exceptional service to members and participants.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
- Builds positive relationships with members by serving needs and concerns and taking the initiative to provide excellent customer service.
- Recruits and hires staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
- Performs managerial functions to include accurate payroll processing, timesheet approval, time off request approval, necessary HR paperwork.
- Serves as the branch liaison to the Association Healthy Living, Group Fitness and Wellness. Delivers training to branch in accordance with association department guidelines.
- Mobilize members and community partners as volunteers in support of the YMCA cause through the Annual Campaign. This includes assisting in recruitment, planning and raising money.
- Ability to work afternoons, evenings and weekends as needed and to have a presence to ensure that staff are upholding YMCA standards.
