Overview

The Clearlake Licensed Vocational Nurse plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care to military veterans, addressing their unique healthcare needs. LVNs in this setting work under the supervision of RNs and physicians, assisting with patient care, medical assessments, and treatment. They ensure a high level of care tailored to the physical, mental, and emotional needs of veterans.

• Contributes to the patient care plan, considering physical, emotional, and social factors.
• Rooms patients, obtains vital signs, documents appropriately, and organizes routine and non-routine nursing care activities.
• Administers medications according to the "+5 Rights" and monitors patients for significant or adverse changes, reporting them in a timely fashion.
• Responds to emergency situations, assumes additional patient care responsibilities as needed, and helps prevent complications.
• Performs wound care and dressing changes as assigned; provides emotional support to patients and families.
• Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies; maintains a safe, clean work environment and completes environmental duties.
• Reports unsafe equipment or conditions and participates in quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrates competency as defined by unit/department criteria and maintains VA Nursing Service policies and standards.
• Ensures patient privacy and respectful, non-judgmental care for Veterans/clients.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of a practical or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and/or NLNAC-accredited at program completion.
• Licensure:
  Active, full, current, and unrestricted licensure as an LPN/LVN in a U.S. state/territory or D.C.
• Certifications/Language:
  English language proficiency as required by policy; ability to read and write in English for direct patient care.
• Citizenship:
  United States Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed where permissible by VA policy.
• Experience/ Grade determinations:
  As specified for GS-3 to GS-6 levels, including progression criteria and demonstrated competencies in nursing care, emergency response, medication administration, patient education, and teamwork.
• Preferred Experience:
  
  Two years of LVN/LPN experience.
• Other requirements:
  Visual/hearing acuity and manual dexterity; ability to work in stressful situations; travel occasionally; schedule flexibility as necessary; telework if position-dependent and approved; driving and related policies as applicable.

• Salary ranges vary by grade (GS-3 to GS-6) and applicant qualifications.
