Staff Accountant
Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the organization’s financial health by ensuring the accurate and timely execution of general ledger and inventory accounting activities. This position is responsible for accruals, prepaid amortization schedules, balance sheet reconciliations, inventory entries/variance analysis, and monthly close reporting, while supporting compliance with GAAP, sales tax/resale certificate requirements, and 1099/intangible tax recordkeeping. The Staff Accountant collaborates across departments and cross-trains with AP and AR to streamline processes, maintain precise records, and deliver insights that strengthen internal controls and the monthly reporting package for ownership.
Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) and a strong individual‑contributor mindset are essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- GL & Close:
Maintain prepaid amortization and accrual schedules (weekly/monthly); perform balance sheet reconciliations; support financial statement preparation. - Inventory Accounting:
Assist with inventory-related entries, reconciliations, variance tracking, and analytics. - AP Support (cross-train):
Code accounts, process invoices, perform vendor reconciliations; maintain records for 1099 and intangible tax filings; review freight bills against agreements and resolve exceptions. - AR Support (as needed):
Cash application, payment reconciliations, and exception handling. - Sales Tax Compliance:
Track and maintain resale certificates; ensure compliance across jurisdictions. - Analytics & Reporting:
Analyze expense ratios, identify exceptions/opportunities, and help build the monthly reporting package for ownership. - Process Improvement:
Document/streamline workflows; partner cross‑functionally to strengthen controls and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in accounts receivable or related accounting functions
- Solid knowledge of GAAP, GL routines, accruals, and reconciliations; exposure to inventory accounting.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data reconciliation)
- Experience with ERP systems (inventory modules a plus)
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience working with sales tax, exemption certificates, or e-commerce platforms is a plus
- Familiarity with the health, wellness, or consumer goods industry is beneficial
