Job Summary

A growing professional services team in Clearwater, FL is seeking a skilled Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for a direct hire opportunity focused on complex tax compliance, tax resolution, and accounting support. This CPA role is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys solving challenging client issues, working independently, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.

This opportunity offers the chance to take ownership of advanced tax matters while partnering with legal professionals, supporting clients through IRS and state tax issues, and mentoring developing accounting talent. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and business clients.
  • Serve as the firm's designated Electronic Return Originator and oversee electronic filing workflows.
  • Represent clients in tax resolution matters before the IRS and state taxing authorities.
  • Collaborate with legal staff by providing specialized accounting, tax, and compliance support.
  • Mentor staff accountants and guide team members pursuing CPA licensure.
  • Manage deadlines, seasonal priorities, and regulatory requirements with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Prepare and review complex tax returns involving federal, state, and local compliance matters.
  • Manage tax resolution casework and represent clients before taxing authorities.
  • Oversee electronic filing processes as the designated ERO.
  • Support legal teams with accounting and tax-related analysis.
  • Active CPA license is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant tax accounting experience is required.
  • Strong experience with complex federal, state, and local tax compliance.
  • Hands-on background in tax preparation and tax resolution workflows.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients by phone, email, and occasional in-person meetings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to self-manage priorities, meet strict deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to mentor and support accounting staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a professional services, tax, accounting, or legal support environment.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior accountants or CPA candidates.
  • Strong client relationship management skills in both remote and face-to-face settings.
