Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends may be necessary.

As a part of the PCU communications team, this position develops, coordinates, and implements community and student educational programs and curricula for Pinellas County Utilities (PCU) initiatives and facilities.
Schedule flexibility is essential as speaking engagements or events may occur in the evenings or on weekends.
What Will You Do- In coordination with the PCU PR Coordinator, create and develop brochures and special event calendars to promote educational opportunities and increase awareness of PCU.
- In coordination with the PCU PR Coordinator, design content/copy for educational and publicity purposes.
- Produce, direct, and host educational programs for multi-media platforms, including virtual tours or virtual classroom visits.
- Partner with PCU grant writer to identify and pursue education-related grants, including research, application development, implementation, and related documentation maintenance.
- Manage PCU’s presence at Enterprise Village and Finance Park at Stavros Institute.
- Serve as a liaison to community partners and event organizers to coordinate PCU’s presence at public events, tabling opportunities, and speaking engagements.
- Plan, promote, schedule, and conduct educational programs through public presentations and tours for civic, service, and other non-governmental organizations, businesses, local governments, schools, and HOAs.
- Coordinate and facilitate events such as public information meetings to educate residents on utility projects, programs, and initiatives; collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure accurate, accessible, and timely communication to community audiences.
- Serve as liaison between PCU and the local public, private, charter, and homeschool systems for classroom visits and county employee community involvement opportunities (e.g., Great American Teach-In, Touch-A-Truck).
- Collaborate with safety teams during tours and market-related community activities; schedule/coordinate/conduct group tours and follow up via surveys.
- Develop lesson plans and associated activities for K-12 outreach presentations.
- Assist in maintaining the calendar (events and outreach).
- Assist in the creation of outreach-related content for social media, newsletters, etc. – capture photos during events, tours, and presentations for use in internal and external communications.
- Perform other related duties and plan community events as assigned.
Experience: Planning, developing, and conducting science- or utility-related educational programs, community outreach, public engagement, or related work.
Education: Communication, education, science, biology, chemistry, or related field and
- Seven (7) or more years of experience as described above.
- Associate’s degree as described above, and 5 or more years of experience as described above.
- Bachelor’s degree as described above, and at least 3 years of experience as described above.
- Master’s degree as described above, and at least 1 year of experience as described above.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Candidate should be a curious, lifelong learner with a passion for discovering new things and a gift for inspiring others.
- Using technology and hands-on engagement to deliver dynamic lessons and create enriching educational materials that align with state/local standards and/or national guidelines.
- Planning and instructing presentations grounded in topics such as biology, environmental science, chemistry, physics, conservation, and engineering.
