Student Assistant - Library Services The Opportunity

As a student library assistant, you will work at the Library Services counter, providing service to all library users. You will assist patrons with basic reference services, provide referrals to specialized supports, and maintain knowledge of the library’s databases and online resources. Additional duties include recording library statistics, conducting shelf‑reading, searching for lost and missing items, circulating and reshelving library materials, and maintaining the cleanliness of the library space and computer lab.

You will uphold library policies and procedures, stay informed about college services and events, and promptly communicate any issues or concerns to the Library Chair or appropriate staff. When working alone, you will complete opening and/or closing procedures. As a member of the Library team, you will participate in team meetings and planning sessions, represent the Library at outreach events, and support staff on assigned duties and special projects.

This is a public‑facing, onsite position located at Keyano College Library, Clearwater Campus. Hours are scheduled between 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. Shifts are a minimum of 3 hours in length, with a total of 12–16 hours typically scheduled weekly.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Keyano College student and legally allowed to work on‑campus.
  • Demonstration of strong research abilities, including search and information evaluation strategies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills.
  • Experience with a variety of technology and online platforms (e.g., computer operating systems, One Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Canva, ebook publisher platforms, and digital tools such as Foxit and Adobe PDF).
  • A commitment to promoting the Library’s Decolonization and Indigenization, as well as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) values and endeavours.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts (a minimum of 3 hours in length), including mornings, afternoons, and evenings Monday through Saturday.
  • User‑Centered Disposition – a demonstrated ability to meet library users at their point of need, with empathy, adaptability, and demonstrated active listening and problem‑solving skills.
  • Collaborative team‑player.
Compensation and Benefits

$17.40 per hour
