Electrical Design Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on translating complex design requirements into high-quality analog and digital circuit board designs for avionics products. You will own the full design lifecycle, including component selection, simulation, schematic capture, layout, documentation, and development of test procedures, ensuring that all solutions meet stringent aerospace and regulatory standards.
ResponsibilitiesTranslate avionics design requirements into detailed analog and digital circuit board designs.
Select appropriate electronic components that meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements for aerospace applications.
Perform simulations to validate design concepts and ensure compliance with functional and environmental specifications.
Create and maintain detailed schematics and layouts for circuit card assemblies (CCAs) using electronic design tools.
Design, review, and update CCAs, including understanding and interpreting complex schematics and layout constraints.
Develop comprehensive documentation for designs, including design descriptions, bills of materials, and configuration control records.
Create and refine test procedures for avionics boards to verify performance, functionality, and compliance with requirements.
Troubleshoot circuit board issues at the component and board level, including identifying whether problems are hardware-related.
Conduct root cause analysis for failures and implement corrective actions to improve design robustness and reliability.
Research and qualify alternate components when parts become obsolete, managing obsolescence and ensuring continuity of supply.
Work with various data and power bus architectures and integrate microprocessors into board-level designs.
Apply working knowledge of aerospace and FAA requirements to ensure designs meet applicable standards and regulations.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and suppliers to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and support design decisions.
Use analytical skills to evaluate design options, test data, and field feedback, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
Prepare and maintain design records, reports, and presentations using Microsoft Office tools.
Support production and test teams on the floor by providing technical guidance and resolving design-related issues as they arise.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering field.
A minimum of seven years of experience in board design, preferably within an aerospace organization.
Proven experience in the design and implementation of electronics for aerospace applications.
Hands‑on experience with circuit card assembly (CCA) design, including card‑level architecture, layout, and detailed schematics.
Ability to read, interpret, and design complex schematics and circuit board layouts.
Experience with Altium or similar electronic design automation tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
Familiarity with various data and power bus architectures used in avionics and aerospace systems.
Experience integrating microprocessors and related digital circuitry into board‑level designs.
Strong troubleshooting skills at the component and circuit board level, including root cause analysis of hardware issues.
Experience managing component obsolescence, including researching and qualifying alternate or replacement components.
Solid analytical skills for evaluating design options, test results, and system performance.
Working knowledge of aerospace and FAA requirements relevant to avionics hardware design.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information to internal stakeholders and external partners.
