Role Overview

We are eager to announce a Sr. GL Technical Claims Specialist position. This role will adjust the most complex general liability claims in the company’s inventory, helping to establish the best and most cost‑effective strategy for handling this claim type.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate, evaluate, and bring to timely resolution an inventory of the most complex general liability claims, many of which are litigated and involve large property damage, catastrophic bodily injury, or construction defect type claims, in accordance with established claim handling standards and applicable state regulations.
  • Understand general liability coverage issues and manage complex coverage items, including issuing reservation of rights and denial of coverage letters.
  • Interpret construction contracts and apply risk transfer when appropriate.
  • Negotiate the duty to defend and indemnify with liable insurers when appropriate.
  • Manage litigation proactively and work well with defense counsel and insureds to reach optimal outcomes.
  • Utilize experts, conduct independent medical reviews or exams, and evaluate liability and damages relating to complex bodily injuries.
  • Apply resolution techniques such as high‑low agreements, settlement proposals, and offers of judgment to obtain optimal outcomes.
  • Respond to time‑limit demands in various states (e.g., Texas, Florida, Georgia) and consumer complaints filed with Department of Insurance.
  • Review and analyze the accuracy of damage reports prepared by contractors, engineers, and appraisers for residential and commercial building construction.
  • Use alternative dispute resolution forums such as mediation to find early resolutions when appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate reserves on all assigned claim files and prepare reports detailing claim exposure, status, payments, and reserves.
  • Maintain timely diaries and effective communication with all parties throughout the claim adjustment process.
  • Assist, train, and mentor less‑experienced team members in collaboration with management.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for process improvement with underwriting and other departments.
  • Collaborate with other departments on projects or perform other duties as assigned.
Attributes We Seek
  • Understanding of commercial lines products and general liability claims handling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred;
    Juris Doctorate a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ten (10) years of general liability claims adjusting experience with exposure of $100,000 or more.
  • Hold proper public adjuster licenses in Florida and/or Texas and the ability to obtain additional licenses as needed.
