Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Utility Technician
Candidates with current Water Plant Operator licenses are eligible to be hired at the following rates:
Class C Water Plant Operator: $53,662.26 Annually ($25.80 Hourly)
Class B Water Plant Operator: $59,162.74 Annually ($28.44 Hourly)
Class A Water Plant Operator: $65,226.82 Annually ($31.36 Hourly)
POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
Under direct supervision, the Water Plant Operator performs certified and skilled work in the operation of water treatment plants, off site wells or pumping. Makes adjustments to machinery, operating, controls, equipment, chemical dosing and related apparatus within established procedures and standards.
Essential Functions :
-- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs skilled, professional, and certified work in the operation and functionality of water treatment plants, pumping, and the associated hazard and safety precautions; oversees operation and guard, monitors implementation of operational projects, and oversees the computerized management system.
- Makes daily operational checks on pumps, equipment, and mechanical and automatic controls; transfers hazardous chemicals, replaces sludge bags, and performs other various maintenance activities.
- Enforces loading and unloading procedures for chemicals and fuel; monitors fuel inventory and reports chemical spills; takes, gathers, and compiles water samples for chemical analysis; provides analysis of samples and application of findings.
- Performs maintenance, oversight, and care of water treatment equipment to preserve proper water pressures and levels; researches ways to improve workflow; assists in the review and development of agency plans and goals.
- Reads and records daily meter readings and changes necessary charts; monitors chemical and fuel inventory and orders products as needed; ensures completion of daily plant checks according to permit and FAC 62-550.
- Directs, assists, and participates in training of operators and trainees; provides cross training programs and verifies work done; determines ways to improve processes and procedures while enhancing and encouraging education and skill.
- Performs pre and post assessment of well mitigation activities; verifies and calibrates all process analyzers; takes water samples for various analysis; runs chlorine residual, pressure, and related tests; observes all safety policies and procedures.
- Provides customer service to customers with various water quality concerns or questions; accompanies FDEP regulators on Sanitary Survey Inspections.
- Performs standby duty for after-hour responses; assists department in the event of an emergency and may be required to work odd or altered hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class C Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification.
Ability to obtain a forklift license.
This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides:
Trucks, forklift, bond tools, computers, and other equipment as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate supplemented by courses in water treatment technology, bacteriology and chemistry; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
