The RCRA Technician is responsible for performing / overseeing all chemical and environmental functions of a site’s Chemical Management Operations as specified in the SOW. This may include insuring compliance with training, providing reporting, etc.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Work in Chemical Waste Services (CWS) Site Program
- Ability to Drive a forklift legally
- Participates in overall company procedures and metrics reporting and development
- Oversee shipments ensuring on-time delivery of products/meeting daily demands
- Acts as liaison between the plant and Chemico Mays to identify/resolve perceived customer problems
- Stage chemicals for delivery between plant docks.
- Review the regulations and environmental management requirements (reference letters, etc.) and determine site applicability and impact
- Assists with monthly and quarterly meetings with plant . , and chemical management personnel.
- Assists with projects and reports against savings requirements
- Performs collection, labels, transports (internally only), and/or handles hazardous waste as a primary part of job
- Ensures the required documentation for all inspections is completed and maintained as required.
- Establish processes to identify potential noncompliant issues
- Address noncompliance items immediately whenever possible and alert supervisor of noncompliance’s when necessary.
- Responsible for packaging, labelling, and marking hazardous waste according to DOT, EPA and State regulations.
- Call the emergency line when a spill, leak, or other emergencies occur.
- Emphasizes the continuing minimization of hazardous waste generation by effective housekeeping and good management practices
- Actively participates in plant and regional meetings
- Gather data, analyze, interpret, technical reports
- Interface with customer Environmental Audit Team and Legal Staff, as required
- Meet with plant management staff (including Plant Manager, Manufacturing Manager, FAM, and SUM) as often as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and the achievement of Business Plan goals and objectives
- Support the customer's Environmental Management System (EMS) to maintain ISO 14001 certification.
- Utilize and maintain an Environmental Calendar to ensure timely conformance with all site environmental requirements
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Excellent oral/written/interpersonal communication skills
- Understanding of plant processes
- Understanding of environmental processes
- Understanding of Environmental legal requirements and is able to be RCRA and DOT certified
- Able to obtain a HAZWOPER 24 certification
- Good understanding of interfaces between all of the company departments and alliances
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
- Able to Lift 50 and move full drums with hand dollies.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of computer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk within very large industrial environments.
- Ability to use computers/peripherals to create spreadsheets/documents/graphs/compose reports and presentations.
- Some travel possibly required.
- High School Diploma required Associates Degree preferred
- Basic understanding of current environmental laws and regulations
- Knowledge of Product procurement, inventory control and ERP systems
- Basic knowledge of Environmental Services Departments and how they interface
- Computer knowledge and associated operational skills
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Computer proficient with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and the internet required.
- Familiarity with other software applications.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment. This job operates in a manufacturing environment. This role requires presence on the manufacturing floor and a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. This role also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. Ability to work in team fostered environment. Ability to work in multi-tasked environment.
