Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
This is a semi‑skilled and skilled work operating medium to heavy sized automotive maintenance or construction equipment in Public Works Stormwater Operations, Pipes/Structures & Ditch section. The Stormwater Technician 1 position operates medium and heavy equipment of more than 10‑ton capacity or that requires manipulative ability. This role operates more complex and specialized equipment such as dump trucks, front end loaders, and is required to exercise skill and care in the operation of equipment.
An employee working in this position is responsible for the routine maintenance of vehicles and, when not driving, do light to heavy physical labor. Work is performed in all types of weather elements and in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co‑workers or others.
What Would You Do?- Pick‑ups and hauls materials as assigned.
- Operates basic trucks or a variety of small gasoline‑powered machinery and equipment.
- Assists labor work crew during construction or repair work and sets flags and barricades, or acts as flagger for traffic safety control as required.
- Performs daily safety inspections, minor maintenance work, and servicing of the truck or tractor.
- Demonstrates basic computer skills to perform record keeping tasks and time records.
- Confers with supervisor to determine work priorities and resolve work problems.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- 6 months experience operating one or more of the following pieces of equipment:
Dump truck (small, e.g., Five (5) yard), Tractors (light to medium size), Truck (straight), Bobcat, Dump trucks/with 10,000 lb. Trailer (A), Twelve (12) yard dump truck (B), Front end loader (small), Riding trenchers, Tank truck, Small backhoe; or - A Public Works Academy training certificate for equipment operators; or
- A Pinellas County employee equipment certification that includes experience or training on job related equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License B with Airbrakes upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
- Obtain job related license(s) or qualifications directly related to the job as a prerequisite to appointment or to acquire those qualifications or license(s) within six (6) months of hire or a period‑of‑time not to exceed one (1) year as determined appropriate:
- FDOT Temporary Traffic Control (TTC)
- Illicit Discharge
- Spill Prevention
- NIMS Response Training; ICS 100, 200, & 700
- Erosion & Sediment Control Inspector Certification
- OSHA 10‑hour
- Knowledge of: and ability to operate light heavy equipment required and necessary to complete maintenance activities.
- Ability to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- Current Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class A and endorsement if any. Knowledge of stormwater drainage principles, methods, materials and equipment.
- Possess job related license(s) or qualifications directly related to the job as a prerequisite to appointment or to acquire those qualifications or license(s).
