Job Summary

Piper Fire Protection’s Clearwater, FL branch is seeking motivated Fire Sprinkler Apprentices to join our team. This role involves assisting with the installation and modification of Wet, Dry, Pre-Action, and Deluge sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local codes. Apprentices enroll in the Fire Sprinkler Apprentice Program, attending ABC apprentice school about two evenings per week during the academic year (roughly 3 hours per session).

Piper Fire will cover tuition and related expenses. Successful participation requires meeting attendance and academic standards as outlined by the program. Wage increases occur at designated intervals during the apprenticeship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with installation and modification of fire sprinkler systems under supervision
  • Develop knowledge of fire sprinklers, fire pumps, backflows, and standpipes
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and document work performed
  • Demonstrate professional communication and customer service skills
  • Operate hand and power tools common to the trade
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to safety policies
  • Maintain driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record

Skills & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Ability to meet driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with fire sprinkler systems or similar mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in construction or mechanical work
  • Basic understanding of plumbing or pipe fitting principles
  • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints or technical drawings
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Role may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, varying climates, construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. PPE may be required. Some roles may require travel.
