Responsibilities
  • Assist Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project; respond to emergency situations/conditions to assist with office activities.
  • Conduct pre-construction, Employee Forum and/or safety meetings.
  • Inspect roads, monitor maintenance activities and coordinate scheduling of maintenance work with construction projects.
  • Keep abreast of current transportation design innovations, modifications, laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Perform research and planning on future projects.
  • Plan and schedule work of construction personnel and/or provide on-the-job training.
  • Prepare and/or recommend field changes and supplemental agreements.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly and final estimates and final construction reports.
  • Resolve public complaints.
  • Review plans prepared by area office personnel; check designs, specifications and estimates.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science. A higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
  • Experience:

    4 years of transportation engineering. Experience may be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications are allowed.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Professional engineers licensed in another U.S. state must obtain a Texas license within six months of hire).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Sedentary work:
    Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
  • Light work:
    Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Standing:
    Prolonged periods of time.
  • Repetitive motion:
    Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
