Position Information
TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for a Drafter based in Keene, TX. Training, tools, uniforms and growth opportunities will be provided. Responsibilities- Responsible for basic or intermediate design work, calculations, field work, and use of automated systems.
- Overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects.
- Perform drafting designs, field investigation, plan review, creating funding proposals, providing status updates on projects with TxDOT Leadership, meeting with subject matter experts on plans and designs.
- Education
:
High School Graduate or equivalent in general high school studies. - Drafter I Experience
:
No experience required. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis. - Drafter II Experience
: 2 years of drafting, design, plan preparation. Related college education or technical training may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis. - Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license (position requires driving a state vehicle).
Drafter I
- Basic roadway design
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Higher mathematics
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Follow verbal and written instructions
Drafter II
- Advanced and specialized design/drafting procedures
- Interactive graphic and design information systems
- Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
- Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
- Subject to noise
- Subject to vibration
- Required to wear protective gear – respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time, frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Balancing – walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
- Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Hearing – perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
- Repetitive motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- This job is physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
- Required to work weekends and holidays.
- Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
- Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
- Employees must pass a drug test as per Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, (e). This does not authorize medical marijuana under state law as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result.
