Description

Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: NGS) is a leading provider of small, medium, and large horsepower compression equipment to the oil and natural gas industry. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Midland, TX, we focus primarily on the nonconventional oil and gas production sector across the United States. We manufacture, fabricate, and rent natural gas compressors—including our proprietary CiP brand, making us the only rental company in the industry with a fully owned and branded compressor line.

With a total fleet horsepower exceeding 500,000 HP (units ranging from 50HP to 2500HP), NGS is trusted by top producers to keep their operations running efficiently. Publicly traded since 2002 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2008, we are proud to combine innovation, stability, and a deep commitment to our team and the energy industry.

We’re looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Make Ready/Shop Hand Technician to join our team. In this role, you’ll work hands‑on with reciprocating engines, compressors, and auxiliary equipment—disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling components to ensure everything runs safely and efficiently. You’ll use precision tools, collaborate closely with your team, and take pride in producing work that meets the highest mechanical and quality standards.

If you’re mechanically minded, organized, and passionate about doing the job right the first time, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and organization of disassembled components to prevent damage or loss.
  • Reassemble repaired or replaced components following technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify and sign off on completed work to confirm compliance with safety and quality protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and share technical knowledge with teammates.

  • Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and repair processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

This position requires regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally heavier loads with assistance or mechanical lifting devices. Work involves frequent use of hands and arms to handle tools, parts, and precision instruments, requiring fine motor skills and attention to detail.

The role is performed primarily in a shop or field environment with exposure to noise, heat, oil, grease, and other industrial conditions. The ability to wear required personal protective equipment—including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel‑toed boots—is essential, as is sufficient visual and auditory acuity to safely operate tools and equipment and identify mechanical irregularities.
