Job SummaryThe Fire Safety Officer II Paramedic (Quick Response Vehicle Medic) protects life and property by providing Fire & Emergency Medical Services response including, but not limited to emergency medical care, fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire and injury prevention and educational programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties- 50% - Essential - Responsible for responding to scenes of fires, disasters or other emergency incidents; provides emergency medical services; responds to manmade and natural disasters; protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires. Delivers safe medical care and treatment based on the individual needs of the patient and in accordance with medical protocols and department policies and procedures.
In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time. - 35% - Essential - Administrative:
Actively conducts occupancy pre-incident plans, performs fire prevention, public education, and public relations activities while projecting a professional public image. Accurately completes electronic forms, incident reports, and other documentation as required. Maintains compliance with required OSHA Programs to include Fire Brigade Clearance, Respiratory Protection, Exposure Control Program. Maintains EMS certification and maintains medical control sponsorship/authorization. - 15% - Essential - Supervisory:
Work is performed under the direction of a commanding officer but the individual must take initiative and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations. This position has no supervisory responsibilities, however may require giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or members of the public during emergency operations per NIMS-ICS as a resource leader or team member;
May serve as Initial Incident Commander until relieved as required.
- Education - High School or Equivalent
- Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000
- Work Experience:
12 consecutive months of firefighting and/or EMS field experience - Current National Registry Paramedic & SC Paramedic certification and NFPA Firefighter I and II, NIMS-ICS 700, 800, 100, & 200, CPR-BLS, and the ability to maintain continuous medical control sponsorship
- Education - 1st Associate's Degree - Fire Science, Emergency Services, or other related field
- 1+ year of full time paid Advanced EMT or Paramedic experience 1+ years of full time paid firefighter experience
- Firefighter Survival (SCFA 1139 or equivalent), Rescuing Our Own - RIT (SCFA 1140 or equivalent).
Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
Budgetary ResponsibilitiesNo Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.
