Asian Long horned Beetle Technician – Clemson University
Join Clemson University’s Asian Long horned Beetle Research Program to support laboratory and field research projects, assist graduate students, and contribute to research endeavors led by USDA APHIS.
Responsibilities- Manage and analyze data, compile spreadsheets, and prepare reports and publications (40%).
- Assist the research team with the acquisition of data on Asian long horned beetle biology, ecology, and management—including collecting trees, dissecting wood, and preserving specimens (30%).
- Participate in field data collection to determine the ecological impact of the ALB, including measuring tree dimensions and recording species information (30% — non-essential).
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management, or a related technical field.
- At least 2 years of field and bench experience with invasive woodborer pests.
- Master’s degree in Forestry or Entomology.
- Driver’s License Class D (normal) with a valid record and less than 26,000 miles per year.
- At least 3 years of field and bench experience with invasive woodborer pests.
- Stand, sit, walk, and move about for prolonged periods.
- Use hands or feet to operate machinery or equipment.
- Ascend or descend stairs or ladders, and position self to accomplish tasks (stoop, kneel, crawl).
- Communicate, converse, give direction, and express oneself.
- Recognize or inspect visually; move, transport, raise or lower objects.
- Extend hands or arms in any direction; perceive and observe with clarity of vision.
- Exposure to heat or cold.
- Wet or humid environments.
- Noise.
- Mechanical hazards.
- Overnight travel.
Work Schedule:
Standard Hours, 37.5 hours per week.
Compensation:
Anticipated hourly rate of $19.50. Salary depends on experience, skills, and performance per Clemson's guidelines.
