Strategic Sourcing Specialist

Strategic Sourcing Specialist – responsible for driving long‑term sourcing strategies, negotiating supplier agreements, and ensuring the availability, quality, and cost competitiveness of critical subsea valve and component supplies for Baker Hughes’ offshore operations.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and manage strategic supplier partnerships for subsea valves and critical components, aligning supplier capabilities with business objectives and technology roadmaps.
  • Lead the development, negotiation, and implementation of LTAs, frame agreements, and partnership models, including pricing mechanisms, capacity commitments, and quality expectations.
  • Structure agreements to include lead‑time guarantees, continuous improvement targets, and lifecycle cost optimisation.
  • Drive collaborative supplier engagement models (early supplier involvement, design‑to‑cost, VA/VE initiatives) to deliver value beyond transactional sourcing.
  • Ensure all strategic agreements support total cost of ownership (TCO) and supply chain resilience.
  • Maintain governance of LTAs, including performance tracking, compliance monitoring, and periodic renegotiation aligned to market conditions.
  • Act as the chief commercial owner of key supplier relationships, overseeing forecast demand alignment, technology capability, and long‑term development plans.
  • Own supplier selection, qualification, audits (technical, QMS, HSE), and quarterly business reviews with KPI and scorecard management.
  • Lead RFQs, bid evaluations, and sourcing decisions, negotiating pricing and contracts to optimise TCO, including logistics, testing, and lifecycle costs.
  • Deliver year‑on‑year cost savings and productivity targets through spend analysis, should‑cost modelling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse spend, develop should‑cost models, and drive standardisation and localisation initiatives to achieve cost reduction.
  • Manage budget adherence and cost forecasting for the sourcing portfolio.
Scope
  • Commodity coverage:
Subsea valves (ball, gate, check, HIPPS, choke valves), machined components, forgings, castings, and actuation systems and assemblies.
  • Supplier base:
Global (Europe, UK, US, India, Asia).
  • Spend scope:
Typically multi‑million to over $100M category responsibility.
Behavioral Expectations
  • Partner with the best mindset; foster collaboration across functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement and digital adoption in sourcing.
  • Prioritise safety, compliance, and sustainability across suppliers.
  • Build long‑term strategic partnerships rather than transactional relationships.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Engineering – spec alignment and technical clarifications.
  • Quality – supplier qualification, non‑conformance resolution.
  • Manufacturing / Ops – delivery performance and escalation.
  • Project / Tender teams – bid‑phase sourcing strategy and collaboration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or high‑school diploma/GED with relevant experience).
  • Experience in strategic sourcing, category management, and contract negotiation.
  • Commercial acumen and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in cost analysis and should‑cost modelling.
  • Cross‑functional leadership and stakeholder management experience.
  • Experience managing global supply chains and complex categories.
  • Data‑driven decision‑making ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to influence and lead small teams.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Permanent work permit in the UK.
