Cleveland Tool & Design is hiring an experienced CNC Machinist to set up and run Mazak CNC lathes and CNC mills in our precision machining, turning, milling, and prototyping shop in North Georgia. This is a hands‑on CNC Setup Operator / CNC Machinist position covering short‑run production, prototype work, and custom tooling.
What You'll Do- Set up, program, and operate Mazak CNC turning centers and machining centers — Quick Turn / QTN, Nexus, VCN, VTC,
- Write and edit programs using Mazatrol conversational programming and G-code / M-code (ISO) on Mazak Smooth, Matrix, and Fusion 640 controls
- Perform full CNC setup: work offsets, tool offsets, wear offsets, tool presetting, work holding, soft jaws, fixtures, collets, chucks, vises,
- Operate 3-axis and 4-axis machining centers
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Hold tolerances to ±.0005" and perform first article inspection (FAI) and in-process inspection
- Use micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, pin gages, thread gages, indicators, surface plates, and CMM
- Select tooling, speeds, and feeds for aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, tool steel, titanium, Inconel, brass, copper, and plastics
- Deburr, finish, and inspect finished parts to print
- Troubleshoot tool wear, chatter, finish, and dimensional issues at the machine
- [2+] years CNC machining experience in a job shop, precision machining, or manufacturing environment
- Hands‑on Mazak experience required;
Mazatrol programming strongly preferred - Proficient in blueprint reading and GD&T
- Experience with precision measuring instruments and quality documentation
- Strong math skills, including trigonometry for machining
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with CAD/CAM — Alibre Design, Esprit, or others
- Machinist certification, NIMS credential, technical college machining program, or completed apprenticeship
- Experience with prototype machining, short‑run production, and tooling/fixture fabrication
