SummaryThe VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician (Spinal Cord Injury). The Physician (Spinal Cord Injury) will function in Spinal Cord Injury Service.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
BasicRequirements
- United States citizenship: non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent, obtained from an approved school.
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, commonwealth or district of Columbia.
- Completed residency training approved by VA, with proficiency in board certification if required.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Other specific board certification requirements may apply (e.g., supervise students, faculty status).
- Preferred:
Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellowship training and BC/BE status. - Experience with neurology/neuro rehabilitation, spinal cord injury or related disorders.

- Physical requirements assessment may be required.
- Provide clinical care to Veterans with acute and chronic SCI in an interdisciplinary environment for inpatients, outpatients, long‑term care, consults, education, and supervision of residents.
- Participate in clinical research (optional).
- Maintain proficiency in the latest rehabilitation/medical care, engage in quality improvement, research, and evidence‑based practice.
- Review and complete SCI service consults for neuro rehabilitation medical appropriateness.
- Manage performance measures, accreditation, committees, quality management, peer review, and maintain medical licensing and board certification.
- Operate computer technology and Microsoft platforms for documentation.
- Perform comprehensive history and physical, procedures, joint/trigger point injections, consents, and interprofessional collaboration.
- Provide whole‑health and disease prevention activities, education, shared decision‑making, and complementary services.
- Document care in the Computerized Patient Record System.
- Provide telehealth consultations and weekend on‑call coverage.
- Perform administrative tasks, preceptor duties, lectures, emergency preparedness.
- Maintain CPR (BLS) certification; ACLS not required.
