Physician (SICU)

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician (SICU). The Physician will function in Surgical Service.
QualificationsApplicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA physicians meeting previous qualification standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship (Non-citizens may only be appointed when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a Department of Veterans Affairs approved school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the United States or DC.
- Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
- Residency may be ACGME, AOA, or other US residency followed by a minimum of five years of practice in the US.
- Residents in ACGME/AOA programs eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) if they are fully licensed.
- PRPs may only be appointed without independent practitioner status and will have a scope of practice under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certified or board eligible.
- Preferred experience:
at least two years in SICU. - Physical requirements to satisfy the duties of the position.
- Attend and lead the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) team.
- Provide critical care consultation in the SICU.
- Coordinate patient care among primary physicians, critical care staff, and other specialists.
- Perform critical care procedures per institutional policies.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, mid-level providers, and fellows.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment teams and committees.
- Ensure timely assessments of patients to identify needs and care goals.
- Monitor clinical activities for compliance with VA policies and improve performance.
- Promote quality in clinical practice by collaborating with providers and analyzing clinical records.
- Other duties as assigned.
