Overview

The Department of Pediatrics at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital is seeking a full-time, academic, board-certified or board-eligible faculty member to join the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
. The faculty member’s clinical responsibilities will consist of inpatient consultative services as well as general outpatient infectious disease clinic. The faculty member will have the opportunity to pursue research opportunities including population health, clinical trials or outcomes-based research. Depending on the candidate’s interests, other opportunities include expansion of the transplant infectious diseases program or growth of antimicrobial stewardship into the outpatient space.

The faculty member will have the opportunity to professionally advance their career into leadership roles related to education of fellows, residents and medical students. Both the hospital and affiliated Case Western Reserve University offer leadership training for those wishing to pursue larger administrative roles in their professional advancement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient infectious diseases consultative services and participate in a general outpatient infectious disease clinic.
  • Pursue research opportunities including population health, clinical trials or outcomes-based research.
  • Contribute to the expansion of the transplant infectious diseases program or growth of antimicrobial stewardship into the outpatient space, based on interest.
  • Engage in teaching and contribute to the education of fellows, residents and medical students.
  • Pursue leadership opportunities related to education and, if desired, pursue administrative leadership tracks with available training.
Division and program context (optional)

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases currently has nine faculty members and three fellows. The hospital microbiology lab directors and full-time antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist are active members of the division. The antimicrobial stewardship program monitors use of all broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents. The division participates in quality and infection control initiatives. Current scientific areas of research include the role of immune activation and inflammation in HIV-infected adults and children, prevention and treatment of metabolic and cardiovascular complications of HIV, and the role of naturally acquired immunity in malaria in children.

The division is actively growing its participation in domestic clinical research. All division members actively participate in teaching medical students, residents and fellows within the institution.

Qualifications
  • MD or MD/PhD degree, completion of fellowship training in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and board eligibility or board certification required.
  • Faculty rank is expected to be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience.

Cleveland and the surrounding northeast Ohio region offers a vibrant living environment with a relatively low cost of living, affordable housing, strong schools and access to many cultural and recreational amenities. University Hospitals compensates physicians in alignment with AAMC guidelines, generally within the 25th to 75th percentile range based on specialty and experience. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed reflects a good faith estimate as of the time of posting and may be updated.

Actual compensation will depend on several factors including location, specialty, academic rank, board certification, years of experience, education and credentials.
