Instructional Aide – Northwest School of the Arts

ACCEL Schools is seeking an Instructional Aide for Northwest School of the Arts in Cleveland, OH.

Northwest School of the Arts has served the Edgewater community since 2004 and is one of the top‑performing academic programs in Cleveland. The award‑winning public charter school provides EK‑8th grade students with a well‑rounded education emphasizing arts education and project‑based learning. In addition to robust arts offerings, the school is known for its vibrant campus life with after‑school programming, activities, and educational field trips.

The Instructional Aide assists the teacher with classroom activities and helps promote positive student behaviors in both academics and extracurricular activities. The Aide provides oversight to ensure student safety and a positive school climate and assists the school leader and teachers by administering assigned duties in accordance with ACCEL Schools’ philosophy, policies, and applicable laws.

• Supports lessons taught by the teacher to individual students or groups of students, following instructional plans as assigned.
• Helps plan classroom activities as directed and supports the teacher in all student and parent relations.
• Assists with school activities, including parent–faculty nights, faculty meetings, assemblies, commencement exercises, fundraisers, chaperoning student activities, providing guidance for students, and participating on faculty committees.
• Performs clerical duties such as grading papers and making copies.
• Assists the teacher in using classroom technology.
• Helps maintain cleanliness of the classroom, lunchroom, and other school areas.
• Understands, accepts, abides by, and implements the school’s philosophy and mission statement in all activities.
• Other duties as assigned, including field trips, morning duty, dismissal duty, and lunch duty.

• Works cooperatively with the teacher and others.
• Acts in accordance with directives from the administrator (or designee) and teacher.
• Contributes to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting a high professional standard.

• Associate Degree, two years of college coursework, or the passage of the Para Professional’s Exam.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Successful completion of a BCI/FBI background check.
• Ability to meet applicable educational standards.
• Ability to work well under pressure and effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines consistently.
• Understanding and ability to manage confidential information.
• High quality written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical ability to lift 25–40 lbs.
• Experience in a school or social services setting is a plus.

Compensation

The starting hourly rate for this position is $15.50/hour. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
