Ensures new families and students are supported while they navigate the U.S. educational system through access to high-quality interpreting and translation services. Supports students and families by connecting with school and community resources.
OVERVIEWThe Family Liaison will be hired to support districts aligned with the USRI Ukrainian Grant and is responsible for building cooperative working relationships between families and school personnel to empower families to partner with the school to become active participants in the education of their children. This role is designed to create an environment where families feel empowered to actively participate in their children's learning and development, which is especially important for families navigating a new cultural and educational system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Responsible for working cooperatively and effectively with members of the public, other employees, related public agency staff, community businesses, and service providers.
- Responsible for accurate and timely record-keeping and reports as required.
- Responsible to drive a motor vehicle with a valid Ohio operator’s license as required by the position.
- Required to travel, among USRI Ukrainian Grant districts, communities, and organizations.
- Arrange, facilitate, and/or participate in interpreting for parent-teacher communication.
- Provide translation between the school and families as needed or facilitate the outsourcing of services.
- Assist or consult with ESL teachers and school personnel for school functions as a community liaison.
- Interact with ESL and regular classroom teachers regarding students’ program/progress.
- Liaison will provide office hours for consultation with districts in the region.
- Serve as a facilitator between Ukrainian students and families that qualify for URSI grant funds and community partners to ensure a safe educational environment.
- Assist students and families with the transition to ABC School District.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
- Maintain respect for confidential information at all times.

POSITION REQUIREMENTSRequired:
All of the following must be met at the time of application except where noted:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in working with parents, staff, and citizens within the Ukrainian Community
- Communication skills and Technology skills
- Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and English languages to reflect the needs of our Ukrainian English Learners (ELs).
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to listen effectively, actively
- Ability to problem-solve
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels
- Work with the principal and staff to organize and implement family activities.
- Collaborate with school administrators and staff on family engagement work.
- Serve as a liaison between community agencies and families.
- Serve as a resource person for staff and families.
- Work with building leadership to coordinate services available for families.
