Position: Community Education Counsellor (Identified) - Gympie State High School

Gympie State High School is looking for a passionate, people-focused Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to support First Nations students and families, strengthen school connections and promote student wellbeing. In this important role, you will provide educational counselling and support services to ensure the best possible assistance is available for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, their families, and communities.

This is a temporary part‑time position (0.8 FTE or 58 hours per fortnight) between Gympie State High School and One Mile State School, unless otherwise determined.

About

The Role

As the Community Education Counsellor (Identified), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support services to ensure that the best possible assistance/services are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families and communities.
  • Monitor student attendance and retention – data monitoring, phone calls home, home visits, student check‑ins.
  • Maintain One School documentation and records management.
  • Assist students to overcome barriers with school engagement.
  • Participate in Enrolment, Re‑entry, and Exclusion meetings where applicable.
  • Participate in the planning of activities to enhance student involvement in education.
  • Develop and deliver lunch‑time activities as part of a proactive student wellbeing programme.
  • Establish and maintain links with out‑of‑school sources of information and support services.
