The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP) at Cleveland State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position beginning on January 2, 2027. Rank will be commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Primary responsibilities include establishing and maintaining a robust, active research agenda; pursuing and securing external research funding; and teaching across the undergraduate and graduate curricula.
The successful candidate will teach core and elective courses in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program and may also teach core HSHP courses, depending on departmental needs and the candidate's expertise. Potential course areas include wellness, nutrition, population health, health services research, and health education. The position will also include oversight of the MPH Capstone experience. Additional responsibilities include mentoring and advising students in research methods, supervising student research projects, and contributing to academic, professional, and institutional service.
This is an on-campus position, with the possibility of a supplemental summer contract based on operational needs.
The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance (HSHP) offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, including a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)-accredited Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with multiple career-focused tracks. The department also participates in an accredited Master of Public Health (MPH) program offered through a four-institution consortium.
HSHP is housed within the College of Health (COH), alongside the Departments of Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Occupational Therapy, and Music Therapy; the School of Social Work; and the School of Nursing. Together, the College of Health offers more than 23 undergraduate and graduate programs in health professions, nursing, social work, and related certificate programs. These programs provide students with opportunities for experiential learning, interprofessional practice, and distinct scholarship opportunities.
The COH operates two on-site health clinics that provide hands-on training for students while delivering health care services to members of the community. The College of Health is committed to preparing highly qualified researchers and practitioners who can meet the needs of individuals and communities within evolving health care, public health, and wellness environments.

Minimum Qualifications- Earned Doctorate in Public Health (e.g., DrPH, PhD), Health Sciences, Health Education, Exercise Science, Nutrition, or a closely related field, obtained by date of hire,
- Earned Master of Public Health (MPH) degree by the date of hire,
- Evidence of an active research agenda with a clear trajectory for conducting a sustained program of research at CSU and in relevant community or professional settings, disseminating scholarly findings, and pursuing external grant funding,
- Experience mentoring and supervising undergraduate or graduate students in research projects, theses, independent studies, and/or capstone projects,
- Experience or demonstrated potential to teach a range of core courses in the MPH program, graduate-level public health courses, and other courses within the HSHP Department, including, but not limited to, exercise science, nutrition, general health science, and health education,
- Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively in research teams and mentor students.
- Research experience in a public health specialty area and/or a demonstrated record of securing external research funding, including federal, state, foundation or other competitive grants,
- Experience teaching in higher education, in both in-person and online formats, including full-course coordination, teaching in an accredited program, and graduate-level instruction.
