Reporting directly to the Chief Science Officer, Peak Nano’s Sr. Research Scientist will be responsible for ideation, formulation, and leading the execution of polymer product development programs to both grow and support Peak’s business in targeted and new markets. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in polymer material science, new product development and launch, polymeric materials characterization, and a minimum working knowledge of various thermoplastic polymeric processing techniques.
Located at the Peak Nano facilities in Valley View, Ohio, the Sr. Research Scientist will assume responsibility for research products supporting core development of new and leveraged thin multi‑layered cast polymer film technology. The Sr. Research Scientist will work closely with Peak Nano Manufacturing, Science, and Sales teams to ensure fundamentally differentiated products are identified, explored, and matured toward market introduction.
- Identify, capture, and lead targeted internal and external layered polymeric material development projects and a small project team to resolve technical challenges.
- Fundamental understanding of polymer structure‑property relationships leveraged to evaluate new materials and technologies following the company new product development roadmap.
- Serve on multi‑disciplinary project teams to collaborate, provide technical input, and deliver results aligned with team deliverables.
- Develop and implement technical solutions through hands‑on experimentation/problem‑solving of technical issues.
- Work seamlessly across groups, business partners, and customers to assist in scale‑up new technology.
- Push boundaries to develop an understanding of the relationship between process and product performance.
- Consistently apply the scientific method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving to resolve concerns.
- Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses.
- Demonstrate the appropriate use of statistical tools to solve complex problems.
- Lead by example in exhibiting appropriate safety and EH&S behaviors by promoting safe work habits.
- Master’s degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related engineering field
- 8+ years’ experience in polymer related fields
- Experience with cast or blown extrusion of film and/or applications
- Fundamental knowledge of polymer material science structure‑property relationships, polymer rheology, film extrusion and film mechanical and transport properties
- PhD in Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related engineering field
- Experience in extruded, multi‑layered products, or related fields
- Experience in polymeric mechanical, thermal, transport, optical, and/or electrical materials testing and characterization
- New product scale‑up and commercialization experience
- Design of experiments knowledge
- Project leadership experience directing small teams (1-2 Scientists or technicians)
