WSP is looking for a full‑time Early Career Urban Planner to join our team in the Midwest, with opportunities in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Toledo, Lexington, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis.
This OpportunityAs an Early Career Urban Planner, you will provide technical planning assistance for site and linear utility projects. Your work includes supporting siting and routing studies, preparing field maps, analyzing ecological data, and creating plan maps for environmental permits. You will document processes in compliance with industry standards.
Your Impact- Plan, execute, and lead siting and routing studies for energy industry projects.
- Gather background data, create siting and routing maps, and document findings for clients and agencies.
- Participate in public open‑house meetings and conduct windshield surveys.
- Document siting decisions in defensible reports and support reporting requirements.
- Provide guidance on state filing requirements and draft utility applications.
- Use ArcGIS to analyze and manage data for site and environmental permitting projects.
- Prepare maps, tables, charts, and accurate reports for presentations.
– Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 0–1 year of experience in siting and routing studies, preferably in Ohio or surrounding states.
- 0–1 year experience with ESRI ArcGIS.
- Familiarity with routing/siting studies and associated reports.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented and able to work independently.
- Willingness to travel for site visits and public meetings.
- Motivated, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Flexible to project schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
- Travel may be required depending on project needs.
- 1–3 years of experience in siting and routing studies in Ohio or surrounding states.
- 1–3 years with ESRI ArcGIS.
- Experience preparing applications for Ohio Power Siting Board, Kentucky PUC, or other state utilities.
- Previous consulting experience.
- Experience with Arc Map and ArcGIS Pro.
- Strong relationships and understanding of utility requirements in the region.

CompensationExpected Salary (Cleveland, OH): $50,400 – $75,600. Compensation is based on education, experience, skills, and geographic location and may vary.
