The Metro Health System (MHS) — a nationally recognized, mission-driven academic health system and the largest public health provider in Northeast Ohio — is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the next Chairperson of the Department of Family Medicine.

This leadership opportunity arises as our previous Chair, Dr. Christine Alexander, now serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Metro Health.

Founded in 1837, Metro Health is a vital safety-net health system, serving the diverse communities of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. With over 25 inpatient and outpatient facilities, Metro Health provides comprehensive, equitable, and innovative care to all — regardless of ability to pay.

We are proud to be among the top 3% of EPIC users nationwide, consistently recognized for innovation in electronic health records and data-driven care. Our ongoing investments in digital transformation and quality improvement underscore our commitment to delivering high-impact care and shaping the future of health equity.

About the Department of Family Medicine

Metro Health’s Department of Family Medicine is a cornerstone of our commitment to community-based, comprehensive care. With a dedicated team of 70–75 clinicians, including 55 board-certified physicians and 20 advanced practice providers (APPs), the department delivers high-quality, accessible care across 15–20 clinical sites across Cuyahoga County, including Broadway, Ohio City, Brunswick, Brecksville, Brooklyn, West Park, Beachwood, Crocker Park, Parma, Middleburg Heights, Buckeye, Bedford, Glenville, Cleveland Heights, the Old Brooklyn Campus (OBC), and Cleveland State University (CSU).

The faculty includes an exceptional mix of early-, mid-, and senior-career physicians

The department supports a highly regarded Family Medicine Residency Program (established in 1974), now expanded to nine residents per year (27 total). Metro Health is the primary academic affiliate of Case Western Reserve University, and hosts learners from Ohio University and NEOMED. Our department is also deeply involved in medical student education with core clerkships, and faculty development.

This department offers a dynamic, mission-aligned environment ideal for a leader passionate about health equity, innovation, mentorship, and expanding access to care.
