Medical Laboratory Scientist Group Lead – Trainer
Location:
Cleveland, OH.
Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM.
Department:

Pay Range: $36.00+ per hour; eligible for annual performance bonus.

- Demonstrate proficiency in all duties of a Medical Technologist I and II.
- Train new hires and conduct periodic competency testing of current employees.
- Maintain training and competency records of employees in collaboration with Media Lab Administrators.
- Perform and report on analytical tests in accordance with SOP, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- Write or edit SOP to an extent acceptable by regulation and succinct enough to facilitate successful training and execution.
- Develop and deliver training materials on medical laboratory science principles, technical skills, safety protocols, and regulations (CLIA, CMS, HIPAA, OSHA).
- Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Assist in validating and verifying new assays and train medical laboratory scientists on new testing procedures.
- Review requests for validity checks and recommend appropriate actions regarding specimen requirements and test quality.
- Act as technical resource for the department by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems and responding to non‑routine/complex inquiries from clients and sales representatives.
- Assist Lab Supervisor by monitoring workflow, distributing and reviewing work assignments, training employees in laboratory techniques, resolving staff issues, and providing input for performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists and assist with the annual competency testing process and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and practice controls as directed.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
- Perform necessary supervisor functions in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated.
- Assist in scheduling rotations and training for MLS students.

Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience as a Medical Technologist within the designated discipline.
Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). U.S.
-educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
Experience as a Medical Technologist at Quest tests highly desired.
Physical and Mental Requirements- Lift and carry objects: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; over 50 lbs not without assistance.
- Stand and work at bench for long periods.
- Frequent walking and/or standing.
- Use manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments demanding significant manual dexterity.
- Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and experience as a trainer preferred.
- Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented, independent, establishes priorities, handles multiple tasks simultaneously.
