POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Revenue Cycle Specialist, the employee in this position is responsible for advising Patients of their financial responsibility. The Financial Counselor will meet with patients who walk in or call to advise them of payment options, collect payments, explain the hospital’s Charity Policy if eligible and assist them with completing applications for assistance if necessary. Works closely with Business Office Manager and staff.

High School diploma required. Prefer experience in accounting, financial counseling, and business environments. The employee in this position must possess excellent communication skills and organizational skills to communicate with Patients, Physicians, and Staff.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREDOne (1) year experience in a Healthcare business office environment, either Hospital or Physician’s Office preferred.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATIONThis position could have access to patient confidential records and must comply with HIPAA regulations as well as Compliance Policies.
SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCEThis position has no supervisory responsibility.
WORKING CONDITIONSPrimarily sitting, sometimes standing. Utilizes good hearing, vocal and visual skills. Occasionally requires walking about, bending or stretching. Equipment, boxes, materials, or supplies of light weight (under 50 lbs) may require infrequent lifting, pushing, or pulling. The incumbent works under good conditions in a clean environment. May be exposed to communicable diseases.
