Day/evening rotation - 6:00am - 2:30pm and 2:00pm - 10:30pm

The Pharmacy Technician 2 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 2 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

• Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile products and sterile products (including chemotherapy and TPN).
• Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
• Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
• Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: orients and trains new staff.
• Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
• Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
• Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 2: packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
• Medication History Pharmacy Tech 2: support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
• Medication History Pharmacy Tech 2: communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
• Medication History Pharmacy Tech 2: maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
• Medication History Pharmacy Tech 2: duties may include those addressed above in the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Essential Functions.
• Infusion Pharmacy Tech 2:
  Infusion Technician Essential Functions align with Inpatient Technician Essential Functions.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
