breakthrough public schools (bps) is seeking a behavior technician (bt) to join our vpwh campus in its multi‑intensive autism center. The behavior technician will provide support to the board certified behavior analyst (bcba) by implementing programming to students in our autism center throughout the school day.
essential functions- assist students with all instructional and non‑instructional tasks as assigned by the bcba
- supervise and ensure well‑being of the students at all times
- preparing and setting up materials and activities
- collect, analyze, maintain and graph student data daily
- document student activities through soap notes
- document student progress and maintain daily progress reports
- follow and implement small group or individual programming as directed by bcba
- assist in keeping the center and storage areas clean, neat, and orderly
- attend classroom/team meetings and trainings
- review and understand student ieps & bips
- assist in implementing bips, as needed
- collaborate with the autism center team about student needs
- high school diploma or general education degree (ged),
required - associate’s or bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, special education or related field, preferred
- experience in a school setting, preferred
- fluency with basic principles of applied behavior analysis (aba), preferred
- experience with implementing programming to students with autism or other developmental disabilities, preferred
- experience with data collection
- experience with engaging in cultural humility and self‑reflection
- passionate about urban education and working in communities that have historically been underserved and under‑resourced
- ability to collect data and display data into visual output
- ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- ability to receive and implement feedback
- ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
- excellent organizational skills and attention to details
- committed to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship‑building with students and colleagues
performs work in an office setting with moderate levels of noise, sitting for long periods of time, repetitive motion using computers and phones, with exposure to fluorescent lighting.
