Responsibilities
  • Ensure total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., FDA approved SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, GMP) to maintain the highest production standards and facility compliance.
  • Maintain high level of customer service and positive donor experience in line with company values and culture.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Review and confirm donor identification and maintain donor confidentiality per SOPs.
  • Set up and prepare all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedure.
  • Label and ensure each unit and sample is labeled accurately.
  • Execute venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Operate the automated plasmapheresis machines, including responding to alarms and alerts, monitoring donor adverse events, and documenting exceptions.
  • Monitor donor conditions to ensure donor comfort, safety, and plasma product quality.
  • Maintain proper ratios for donor safety and product quality.
  • Disconnect donors and handle disposal of biohazardous waste, including cleaning spills and following safety protocols.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and replace equipment when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including machine logs.
  • Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management.
  • Maintain/stocks adequate inventory and replenish supplies on plasma carts.
  • Mentor junior phlebotomists, driving training efficiencies, and serve as a Designated Trainer.
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms/alerts and perform QCs routinely (daily/monthly).
  • Partner with Quality Assurance on overall donor floor performance, CAPA implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with storage room organization and follow FIFO method.
  • Oversee donor flow, organize lunch schedules and breaks, and ensure schedule adherence.
  • Upon completion of initial training, train as QA-Backup and/or Nex Sys Technician and perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Any certification or licensing required by state.
  • Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or healthcare environment or equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • Complete documentation of training prior to independent duties.
  • Ability to speak, read, write (legibly & accurately), and understand English.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocols.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Able to produce accurate and complete documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctual, flexible with schedule).
  • Availability for daytime, evening, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
  • Perform venipunctures.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Enhanced collaboration and adaptability skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty‑five pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Use all required PPE at all times.
  • Occupational exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18’’ away for extended periods.
  • Work for up to four (4) hours at a time in temperature of
    -40°C or colder.
  • Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice.
  • Perform precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills.
  • Use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
