Position: HR & Safety Manager

Location: Cleveland, OH – Hybrid
Compensation: $100K–$125K (up to $150K for an ideal candidate)
Software Experience Preferred: Foundations (Accounting & Payroll)

Why the Role is Open:

The organization is privately owned and has operated without a formal HR department for 20+ years. HR duties have historically been managed by accounting personnel. A subcontractor currently oversees safety operations and is in the process of drafting a safety handbook.

Team Structure:

The HR & Safety Manager will report directly to ownership and work alongside the Controller.
Direct Reports:

  • Payroll Associate

  • Accounting Associate

  • Intern (Payroll)

Responsibilities:

Human Resources (50%)

  • Develop, implement, and manage all HR programs and policies

  • Lead talent acquisition and recruiting efforts

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations

  • Administer benefits programs

  • Oversee payroll processing

  • Conduct training, performance reviews, and administrative evaluations

Safety (50%)

  • Create and implement job site safety programs

  • Travel on-site for safety audits and training sessions

  • Investigate workplace accidents or injuries

  • Collaborate with an existing subcontractor for safety support and cross-training

Candidate Profile:
  • Experience in construction or manufacturing industries is required

  • Must be comfortable working in field environments; ~80% of employees are union workers

  • Needs to be hands-on, resilient, and comfortable handling both HR and safety responsibilities

  • Proven track record of building or revamping HR departments and implementing programs (e.g., job descriptions, salary guides, org charts)

  • Experience with construction safety programs is strongly preferred
