Business Systems & Technology Analysis, IT Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Data Engineering
About the Role BWE's Digital Enablement team is looking for a Summer Intern who wants hands‑on exposure to the full lifecycle of a digital solution — from understanding a business problem, to designing an AI‑powered or reporting solution, to building the data pipelines that make it work. This role sits at the intersection of three disciplines: business analysis, applied AI/application development, and data engineering (Databricks).
It's a great fit for a student who's curious across all three areas rather than narrowly focused on just one. You'll work directly with business stakeholders to understand their needs, help shape and build custom applications or reporting tools that meet those needs, and support the data integrations that power them behind the scenes. Depending upon your background, we will focus your internship experience either on the business or engineering aspect of the department while giving you exposure to your non‑focus area.
You’ll Do Requirements & Business Analysis
- Participate in stakeholder meetings to learn how the business gathers and documents requirements
- Help translate business needs into clear user stories, process flows, and functional specs
- Support documentation of current‑state vs. future‑state processes for digital initiatives
- Assist in building custom applications and reporting solutions based on gathered requirements
- Support prototyping of AI‑driven features (e.g., automation, natural language interfaces, predictive insights)
- Help test and refine solutions based on stakeholder feedback
- Support the design and build of integrations between business applications and data platforms
- Gain hands‑on exposure to Databricks — working with pipelines, notebooks, and data models
- Help validate data flowing between systems to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields:
Information Systems / Management Information Systems (MIS) Data Science Data Analytics / Business Analytics Computer Science Computer Information Systems Software Engineering Business Administration (with a quantitative or technology concentration) Finance Real Estate Economics - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Comfortable communicating with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Interest in AI/ML concepts and their business applications
- Exposure to SQL or Python
- Familiarity with Databricks, Spark, or similar data platforms
- Experience with requirements‑gathering tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Visio)
- Familiarity with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
- Coursework or projects involving AI/ML or application development
- Exposure to three distinct career paths (BA, AI/App Dev, Data Engineering) in a single internship
- Direct mentorship from experienced professionals on each team
- A real project you helped scope, build, and ship — something you can speak to in future interviews
- Hands‑on experience with enterprise tools like Databricks
