Position OverviewEpitec is seeking an experienced Database Administrator 4 to support enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server environments across both on-premises and Azure platforms. This role will focus on database administration, performance optimization, security, backup and recovery, HA/DR, migrations, automation, and Tier III technical support.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Administer Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
- Monitor database performance, server health, resource utilization, blocking, deadlocks, and system availability.
- Perform query optimization, indexing, statistics management, and database performance tuning.
- Design and support High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
- Manage database backups, recovery procedures, replication, and migration activities.
- Configure database security, including RBAC, user permissions, encryption, Microsoft Entra , and Azure Key Vault.
- Support SSIS packages and ETL workflows.
- Assist development teams with schema design, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and complex T-SQL queries.
- Develop T-SQL, Power Shell, and command-line scripts to automate database maintenance and monitoring.
- Support migrations and integrations between on-premises SQL Server and Azure environments.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide Tier III technical support.
- Maintain technical documentation and provide mentorship to junior team members.
- 5+ years of hands-on enterprise Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience.
- Strong experience with on-premises SQL Server and Azure database environments.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Advanced T-SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Strong database performance monitoring and tuning experience.
- Hands-on experience with HA/DR, backup, and recovery solutions.
- Experience with database security, RBAC, user permissions, and encryption.
- Experience migrating or integrating databases between on-premises and Azure environments.
- Strong analytical and Tier III troubleshooting capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- SSIS and ETL experience.
- Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
- Microsoft Entra .
- Azure Key Vault and Azure Backup.
- Azure RBAC administration.
- Always On Availability Groups.
- Log Shipping and Failover Cluster Instances.
- Database replication.
- Power Shell scripting and database automation.
- Redgate or similar database monitoring/backup tools.
- Azure networking, scalability, security, and cost optimization knowledge.
- Technical documentation and mentoring experience.
