Position Summary & Objective

Assembles products according to customer’s requirements. Assembles and fits components according to assembly blueprints, manuals, engineering memos, sketches, and knowledge of machine construction to construct, rebuild, and repair machines and equipment using hand tools and power tools.

Essential Functions Performed By The Position
  • Creates plans for the disassembly and repair per the assembly procedures, following specifications provided and using knowledge gained by experience.
  • Verifies conformance of parts to stock list and blueprints using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers. Inspect parts to quality standards.
  • Aligns components for assembly, manually or with a crane.
  • Removes high spots and smooths surfaces using chisels, scrapers, files, and powered hand grinder. Assembles, sets up, and operates machines to verify functionality, machine capabilities, and conformance to customer’s specifications.
  • Forms, bends, and fastens piping, fixtures, and attachments required to provide the machine with air, water, and oil. May bend and install pipe for hydraulic systems.
  • Verifies alignment and tolerances of moving parts using measuring instruments such as dial indicators and micrometers.
  • Installs moving parts such as shafts, levers, or bearings, and works them to test free movement and operation of assembly by hand. Tests or assists in testing operation of the completed product.
  • Aligns and meshes gears in gearbox to assemble system of gears.
  • Mounts and connects auxiliary, mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic equipment. Cuts and fits pipes and tubing.
  • Tests, or assists in testing, operation of completed product.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Solid mechanical skills; must proficiently use cranes and other heavy tools and equipment normally required in daily assembly and disassembly operations.
  • Owns tools of the trade and uses them effectively.
  • Uses judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions about the sequence of operations within the limits of established methods and procedures.
  • Interprets prints well enough to determine appropriate disassembly sequence for a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Reads, interprets, and understands a variety of assembly prints, verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of using small machine tools, drill presses, welders, cranes, and forklifts.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to use basic shop math.
  • Verbal communication with team members, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Physical strength and ability to safely handle heavy equipment and tools.
  • Ability to bend tubing, lube, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
