Alcon Welders will be responsible and have experience in various welding techniques and a strong understanding of metal fabrication processes. Welders will be responsible for interpreting blueprints, setting up welding equipment, and producing welded assemblies according to specifications and quality standards.

- Choosing the correct welding tip and rod for each application
- Places and moves blocking, braces, and jigs to hold parts
- Aligns parts and joins by either the MIG, TIG, or ARC welding method
- Keeps weld to a minimum by using skill in the joining process
- Corrects flaws in castings or parts
- Fills cracks or imperfections to strengthen metal objects
- Performs safety checks on welding machine prior to use
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment
- Performs any other related duties as requested by a supervisor
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certificate of Welding School or equivalent training
- Welding certification at higher skill levels
- Able to stick and mig weld rotating parts on and off center while using a foot pedal
- Experience with fitting is a plus
- Ability to read blueprint or shop print to Weld to specification
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Welders must wear the following personal protective equipment at all times:
Protective eyewear (welding helmet or other as prescribed), Protective handwear (welding gloves as instructed), Hearing protection, Metatarsal safety shoes, and Welder mask to assure breathing protection, as instructed.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
