C. Malesic, Catholic Charities continues the mission of Jesus by responding to those in need through an integrated system of quality services designed to respect the dignity of every person and building a just and compassionate society.
With its sister ministry of St. Augustine Health Ministries, Catholic Charities delivers more than 150 services at 60 locations to over 400,000 individuals each year.
Primary FunctionThe President/CEO is responsible for the overall operations, property, and employees of Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland.
They act as the representative of the Bishop regarding health and human services in the diocese and provide broad long‑term and short‑term strategic and business planning, leadership, direction, structure, resources, communications, reporting, and assessment to ensure the organization’s mission is accomplished.
Duties & Responsibilities- The President/CEO ensures that all activities are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities and the Catholic Church.
- Directs the provision of all services and acts as the primary representative with Catholic Charities USA and related agencies.
- Identifies the impact of church social teachings on health and human services and promotes awareness of community needs.
- Guides advocacy for social reform in various forums.
- Promotes the services through public presentations, articles, and public relations efforts.
- Coordinates the alignment of annual goals and objectives with business work plans and oversees their execution.
- Collaborates with the Catholic Community Foundation in setting the annual Catholic Charities Appeal goals and determining fund allocations.
- Approves and administers the annual budget in accordance with policies and general accounting principles.
- Attends Board meetings and committees of the corporation to perform other duties as requested by the Members and/or Board.
- Appointed by the Bishop as Diocesan Secretary of the Secretariat.
- Serves as an advisor to the Bishop and member of the Bishop’s staff reporting to the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia.
- Functions as an ex‑officio member or director of affiliated corporations, including Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland, St. Augustine Health Ministries, and the Diocese of Cleveland Facilities Services Corporation.
- Participates in planning and coordination of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland work.
- Collaborates with Auxiliary Bishops, diocesan Secretaries, and other diocesan officials.
- Acts as liaison for the Bishop with other entities within the Secretariat.
- Provides ministry to the pastoral and spiritual needs of agencies and offices within the Secretariat.
- Master’s Degree in a related discipline with 5–10 years of progressive senior/executive level management experience.
- Fully initiated and practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church with a solid background in church policies and practices.
- Proven executive‑level management experience in health and human services, nonprofit business management, and financial management.
- Knowledgeable of the Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland system and the regional human services/nonprofit sector.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
- Fiscal, administrative, and supervisory/management experience in a nonprofit setting.
- Capacity to build and sustain strategic partnership networks (e.g., board involvement, community partnerships).
- Ability to manage people/operations across multiple concurrent activities.
- Skill in coordinating, prioritizing, and responding to multiple issues simultaneously.
- Demonstrated business acumen, organizational skills, and detail orientation with independent decision‑making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
